Planet Coaster 2 is Sitting on the Perfect Crossover Experience (2024)

After building upon Planet Coaster for years, Frontier Developments has finally given players the hotly anticipated Planet Coaster 2. While it may not have made the initial impact the studio may have wanted, it has built some strong foundations that future post-launch content could build upon. Not only can new features like water parks be expanded upon considerably, but the DLC content train could tap into all sorts of unique themes. However, if Frontier wants to truly take Planet Coaster 2 to the next level, then it may want to delve further into the world of crossovers.

Planet Coaster was no stranger to crossovers, as seen with its Ghostbusters and Back to the Future DLCs. Those could feel right at home once more in Planet Coaster 2, yet that should just be the tip of the iceberg for crossover adventures. Of course, there are countless IPs and franchises that could shine in a theme park builder. But, if Frontier wanted to deliver something special, then it may be time for Planet Coaster to crossover with the studio's other massive theme park games.

Planet Coaster 2 Collaboration Content Should Be a No-Brainer

Frontier Developments has carved itself out a nice slice of the theme park management genre. After Rollercoaster Tycoon mostly faded into obscurity, the studio rose to fill that void with the acclaimed Planet Coaster. That game gave players practically all the tools they would need to build the theme park of their dreams, and through countless DLC packs, the experience only grew. Because of its success, the studio has only continued to push into the theme park management market with a plethora of new experiences.

In 2018, Frontier took its theme park model to Jurassic World with Jurassic World Evolution. Then, a year later, the studio also let players construct their very own zoos with Planet Zoo. Following that, it has further built out its catalog with Jurassic World Evolution 2 and Planet Coaster 2. All of this has given players the ability to construct all sorts of unique theme parks, which has made for some extremely memorable adventures.

Like-Minded Theme Park Games Could Shine In a Planet Coaster 2 Crossover

Not much is known about Planet Coaster 2's post-launch content, but if the first game is anything to go by, the title will likely get a bunch. Of course, the majority of the content should be focused on giving players new exciting ways to build out the theme park of their dreams with new themes, rides, and mechanics. On top of that, this DLC could also finally connect all of these different titles into one crossover adventure.

This Planet Coaster 2 DLC could introduce Planet Zoo and Jurassic World Evolution-like mechanics to the game. Players could use assets from those games to build their theme park, they could be given special campaign missions that have them work with parks from those other games, or there could simply be some nods to the franchise at large. Not only would that serve as a great way to further expand upon this title, but it could also be a fantastic way to get players interested in those other titles, especially as Jurassic World Evolution 3 looms on the horizon. If the studio wanted to take it even further, they could even dive back into the days of Thrillville or Rollercoaster Tycoon 3.

It will likely be a little while before players get to see what Planet Coaster 2 has in store for them, but hopefully, that DLC will bring these titles a bit closer together. Even if it just crossed over with Planet Zoo, it could lead to something truly special for fans of this fast-growing IP.
